FUN FACT OF THE WEEK
Soccer
Where Did Soccer Start? Archaeology Weighs In. “The idea of the team sport was invented in Mesoamerica.” The Chinese however were the first to get their kicks by kicking balls into nets for sport in the third century B.C., and the game known globally as "football" (soccer) was formalized in England in the 19th century. A soccer ball has 32 panels; each one represents one of the 32 countries in Europe. Soccer was also played by prisoners at London’s Newgate Prison in the early 1800s. Having their hands cut off for their crimes, prisoners came up with the game using only their feet. |
